Today we learned about the First Great Awakening.
Then we received our sermon writing instructions. Today we watched an episode of the Twilight Zone called "The Monsters are Due on Maple Street" and then we annotated an article on mob mentality.
Today we handed in book projects.
Then we took a vocab pretest. A4 finished reading act 1. We ended with a character map for the characters and questions about act 1. Today we created a quiz on dramatic elements and then took someone else's quiz and gave feedback.
Today was a reading day. Book projects are due October 11th!
Today we did a handout on the New England Primer and Puritan beliefs. Then we had a Think with Ink called Maxims. (attached below)
Today we discussed how the Puritans were like and unlike "us" today.
Then we learned about the author, Arthur Miller. Today we watched Salem Witch Trials documentary.
Then we talked about how it all compared to the Red Scare of the 1950's. We ended by starting to annotate an article called "How Did the Puritans Affect the Development of America?" Today we finished annotating our article on multitasking and then did a pair/compare/share of them.
Then we listened to a podcast on popularity and took "what" style notes. Today we practiced analyzing 4 texts using the P.A.P.E.R.S. acronym.
Then we learned how to annotate and started annotating an article on multitasking. Today we had our department argumentative paper.
It took the whole class. Those who finished read their book. Today was commercial day! We talked about the various ways to reach an audience with an advertisement. Then we had an assignment to analyze 10 advertisements. (Attached below) This is due Monday/Tuesday.
After reading, we did a practice session of the reading section of the ACT and then corrected it.

We learned about topic sentences and how to write a paragraph. Then we talked about what a text is and the possible text purposes, presentations, and roles. We learned about the book projects options list and looked at some good examples.
We then went to the library to look for a book. Then we had our first reading time. Next, we learned about topic sentences. We ended by defined what is a text? We started by discussing the song "Loser" by Beck.
Today we went over the completed plot line. Today we finished our getting to know each other handout. Then we filled out a literacy inventory. (attached below) Next, we discussed the 5 learning domains of Language Arts and why it matters.
First Day: We went through the Captain's introduction PowerPoint and students did their own 1,2,3. Then we went over the disclosure document. (attached below) We ended with an activity to get to know each other. Get your computer permission form filled out and returned to the office!
