Today we learned about the Schaffer writing method. Then we drafted our outline for our paper using the Schaffer method. See the attachments below.
Today we went to the computer lab to find, print, and annotate 3 valuable sources of information about your expository essay topic.
Today we finished our last poem, organized all of the poems, shared some for extra credit, and handed them in.
Then we started our expository writing unit. We learned about types of expository writing and picked a topic about transportation. The rest of the time, we researched our topic on the laptops in class. Today we used our 3 stolen words from others' poetry and put them into our 'last poem' of the poetry unit.
Then we shared them in groups. We finished our dialogue poem and handed it in.
Then we wrote 'short and sweet', 'I like your style', and 'final thought' poems. We ended by stealing 3 words from other people's poems to put into our last poem. We shared one of our noun-sense poems and then handed them in.
Then we did a "dialogue" poem. Today we did our second noun and sense poem. Each student had an A-D paper.
These two poems will be handed in at the same time as one assignment. We read some poems and talked about the importance of specific, concrete, vivid nouns in creative writing. Then we were assigned a picture out of a book. In groups, we identified the sensory words that would describe what is happening in that picture. Lastly, we started drafting a poem using these sensory words. (attached below)
We watched and discussed the film adaptation of the play.
We finished the pie of responsibility, the tragic hero assignment, and wrote a few paragraphs defining the word 'crucible' and how these definitions tie into the play.
Then we started the film of the play! We finished the irony assignment and then we learned about what a tragic hero is and how that plays into the play.
Then we split up responsibility in The Crucible with a pie chart. We finished the play and then talked about irony in the play.
We talked about senior classes.
Then we read act 4 of the play. Today was a work day to offset Friday's altered schedule.
We worked on our allegories and read past examples. In groups, we presented types of irony.

Today was a reading day. Book projects are due in one month!
Today we listened to a Tom Waits poem called "What's He Building?"
and we described ourselves in the creepiest way possible. Then we handed in our sermons. Some students chose to read them to the class for extra credit. Lastly, we watched some videos explaining "The Allegory of the Cave" by Plato. We received instructions for writing your own allegory. Today we finished reading act 2 or the "Sinners in the Hands of an Angry God" and we had a think with ink on ignorance. (Attached below) Then we did act 2 vocabulary. We ended by learning about the Allegory of the Cave by Plato. We received instruction on writing your own allegory.
