Today we talked about the parenting 7 behaviors article.
Today we annotated an article on parenting.
Then we worked on a mood and tone handout. We handed in book projects and the "Romantic You" assignment where students created their own Romantic era art or literature.
Then we finished the questions for the letters and prologue. Next, we had a handout on mood and tone in the novel so far. Then we read chapter 1. Today we were introduced to how the Frankenstein paper will be structured.
Then we finished the letters section of the book. We ended with a handout with questions about what has happened in the novel so far. Today we talked about Prometheus, the Greek titan.
Then we learned about Mary Shelley and her crazy life. Then we skimmed the intro to the novel and started reading the letters section. We talked more about Gothic elements. Then we received a random subject which students will write/create a Romantic era style poem or artwork.
We had a Think With Ink called "What If..." talking about what the world would be like if the Romantics had persuaded the rest of the world to live like them.
Then we watched videos explaining all things Gothic. Today we shared the Romanticism poem/artwork that we found and explained why it fits Romanticism.
Then we worked on our rejection letter. We watched some Romanticism clips to understand the Romanticism movement.
Then we read some more about Romanticism art and poetry. Students are assigned to find a good example of a Romantic poem or work of art to show to us next time. Make sure you send the artwork to nrice@alpinedistrict.org so the captain can show it. Then we ended with instructions for a rejection letter. Today we learned a note-taking strategy called the "What" style of note-taking.
We listened to a podcast on attention and distraction and took notes. We handed in the Homework Challenge. Then we read for 15 mins. Next, we learned how to annotate and then annotated 2 parts of an article. Then we did pair/compare/compare/share. We had a Think with Ink on Ambition. (attached below)
After a few more commercials, we filled out the PAPERS for 4 texts.

We talked about the various ways to reach an audience with an advertisement. Then we had an assignment to analyze 10 advertisements. (Attached below) This is due next time.
We talked about Purpose, Presentation, Roles, Evidence, and Subject. Then we took the questionnaire on humanmetricts.com and read all about the learning type we each had. We ended with an assignment called the Homework Challenge. (attached below)

Then we filled out a literacy inventory. (attached below) Next, we discussed the 5 learning domains of Language Arts and why it matters. Lastly, we read and discussed the song "Loser" by Beck.
First Day: We went through the Captain's introduction PowerPoint and students did their own 1,2,3. Then we went over the disclosure document. (attached below) We ended with an activity to get to know each other. Get your computer permission form filled out and returned to the office!
