After sharing our stop-motion films in class, we started our non-fiction unit.

Then we watched Ponyo and, in groups, we made a short stop motion film. We learned about Phenomenology film theory and we also discussed what it means to romanticize our lives.
Then we watched Big Fish and Midnight in Paris. Today we learned about lighting and color.
Then we watched some of Joe Versus the Volcano and analyzed it for cinematic elements. We learned about Genre Theory.
Then we watched "He Loves Me, He Loves Me Not" and "Lars and the Real Girl" as we discussed elements of romantic comedies. We took the quiz on elements of sound.
Then we learned about cuts, transitions, and film continuity. We watched A Quiet Place and talked about different types of silence and when less sound is more. We then watched a few clips that talked about sound in the film.
We watched clips and discussed various elements of sound in film between ambient sound, library sounds, Foley sounds, soundtracks, and scores.
Then we scored various film scores using a handout and took notes on sound using a study guide. We continued our exploration of 'ignorance and the nature of reality' by watching Inception.
Then we watched some analysis clips about the two films and filled out the yellow outline for the two films. We finished talking about The Red Balloon by discussing the 4 values and reading an article about it.
Then we learned about and read a handout on Cave Theory before starting "The Truman Show". We watched Elefante' again and wrote down elements of the 4 values for the film.
