We watched The Red Balloon and analyzed it through the 4 values of film.
Today we learned about the 4 values of film that we will be using to analyze films.
Then we watched a short film called Elefante' two times. You should be able to YouTube it. The second time, we watched it looking for one of the four values only. Then we discussed it in groups and as a class. To get credit for the day, just pick on of the 4 values and share your notes with me.
We got to know each other and took a filmiliarity survey.
Then we watched Crash Course's "Movies are Magic" #1 episode.
We ended by splitting into 3 groups of 6 to teach each other about some of the early happenings in film using one of 3 pages of an article.

We ran through the birthday dirge for the Vikings.
Then we shared parts of Odin's life in groups.
Then we learned about Thor! and compared him to superheros.
Today we read the myth of Odin's Quest for Wisdom.
We also had a think with ink on wisdom.
We started doing research on 3 of 80 wisdom sayings of the Vikings.
We translated our names into the runic language and found out what our names meant. We also learned about different last name origins.
Then we started a Mythical Mirror assignment.
We read the creation myth called "Building of the Wall" and discussed it.
We also talked about power and watched a film clip.
Today we started Norse mythology by talking about who the Vikings were, their gods, what their life was like, and what happened to them.
Then we had a Think With Ink on power. (attached below)
This week, we are watching the film O Brother, Where Art Thou? and comparing it to The Odyssey.
We are also going to discuss the think with inks.
We have been reading the script stories for The Odyssey and working on the 3 part think with ink that goes with it. (Attached below)
We read two poems which contrasted Helen of Troy and answered questions about the two poems.
Then we did part 1 of the think with ink for the Odyssey. We then talked about it.
We read summaries of Oedipus at Colonus and Antigone. You can find these summaries on Shmoop.com
We watched some videos explaining it better and talked more about fate.
We read the story of Oedipus Rex and then we had a think with ink on fate. (attached)

We did the aftermyth for all things love.
We read a myth about the various loves of the gods.
Then we did an aftermyth for the Greek love myths.
Today we talked about the months and days of the week and how and why they have the names that they do. We listened to a podcast and took notes.
We also talked about the Roman influence on our lives in America today.
We worked on our "What Is a Classic?" paper.
Then we listed things that can be shared without diminishing it.
We read the myth of Prometheus and Pandora and talked about it.
We learned about the Greek and Roman creation of the universe.
We learned what a topic sentence is and how a paragraph works.
